pinarayi-vijayan

A history is being created in the Kerala politics. Kerala is going to witness a historic moment when the same political party returns to power after five years of rule. The result of this election can only be seen as the victory of the communist leader Pinarayi Vijayan, who in every sense shone the nickname 'Captain', overcoming the criticism that at some point they would never make a comeback.

Who is Pinarayi really?
There will be is no other leader in Kerala politics who has such an atmosphere of mystery. Even fierce opponents will admit that Pinarayi is a person of determination. The life of Pinarayi Vijayan cannot be reduced to a few words.

Leader who shows in face when something is in mind
There is a saying that face is the mirror of the mind? In the case of Pinarayi Vijayan, it is literally true. He does not have the habit of keeping one thing in his mind and saying another thing outside. The media may have felt the most resentment of Pinarayi. He will not hesitate to shower criticisms at his opponents. His loyalists on the other hand uses it as a propaganda of weapon.

Pinarayi came to the forefront with special mission
Pinarayi Vijayan reaching the political party leadership after student and youth politics, was with a special mission. He came at a time when CPM's activities weakened in Thalassery or even hampered due to the conflict. It was at the end of 1960’s. State secretary C H Kanaran directly appointed Pinarayi as secretary after replacing Thalassery constituency committee secretary and avoiding other senior members. What happened next is the modern political history of Thalassery and the rise of the leader Pinarayi Vijayan. According to Vithayathil Commission report, the then MLA Pinarayi Vijayan and his group were the first to come to the conflict zone to prevent the outbreak of Thalassery communal riots in late December 1971 and early January 1972.

Pinarayi Vijayan's leadership is characterized by his unwillingness to step back due to opposition or adversity. One of the factors in Pinarayi's success is that he has been able to innovate himself over time. When the UDF Government decided to set up a university in Kannur, the CPM was of the stand that a new university was not needed. Many including EMS said the medical colleges existing are more than enough and setting up a new medical college in Pariyararm was unnecessary. A campaign was conducted by Shastra Sahitya Parishad. The position taken by Pinarayi at that time was that a university was needed.

It was under Pinarayi's leadership that the state leadership changed the stand of Pariyaram Medical College to the slogan of no self-financing medical college with co-operative funds. When assumed power, the government took over Pariyaram Medical College and turned it into a government medical college, despite great financial difficulties.

Years ago, he led the formation of an action committee for Kannur airport and this led to criticisms. He was criticised for trying for an airport where there is not even a good road and which will never happen. An all-party meet was convened during the time of V S Achuthanandan when the issue of whether the national highway development should be 45 meters wide or not stoked a controversy. State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan represented the CPM and KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala represented the Congress in the meeting. Before starting the discussion, chief minister started reading a letter sent by V M Sudheeran. Pinarayi strongly intervened saying that the letter was irrelevant while the official representative of the Congress is here.

Always punctual
It has always been a habit of Pinarayi to strictly adhere to punctuality. There will be no change whether it is a party meeting or a press meet. He takes his daily routine along with this. Another speciality is that there is a place for reading books and watching movies.
