KOCHI: Justice Devan Ramachandran has sought a report from the Ernakulam District Collector on the basis of complaints that private hospitals were charging exorbitant fees from Covid patients even after the High Court's intervention. The collector has been asked to investigate and inform the facts regarding the complaints.

The court had recently ruled that excessive amounts should not be charged from Covid patients. The report was sought in the context of widespread complaints that excessive amounts are being charged even for PPE kits even after the court's intervention.

The division bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice Kauser Edappagath will hold a special sitting on Monday to consider the petition seeking to stop private hospitals from charging exorbitant fees from Covid patients.
