THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Met Office has warned a possibility of heavy rain in six districts of the state. The public is advised to exercise cautiion as winds and thunderstorms are likely. Widespread rains are forecast in the state till May 22.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Kannur districts will also receive heavy rainfall. Winds and thunderstorms can reach up to 40 kilometers per hour. Low pressure may develop in the Bay of Bengal by Sunday. This will lead to more rains in the coming days.

The state has received 128 per cent more rainfall since March 1. Ten districts received more than 100 per cent rainfall. Kannur received the highest rainfall of 216 per cent. Ernakulam received 173 per cent and Pathanamthitta had 161 per cent more rainfall. Summer rainfall was higher than usual, followed by cyclone Tauktae. The monsoon is forecast to reach Kerala on the 31st of this month.
