THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition leader for the 15th Kerala Assembly will be announced today. The official announcement will be made by the AICC today. Although majority of the MLAs favoured V D Satheesan, the fact that some leaders including Oommen Chandy favouring Ramesh Chennithala is confusing the high command.
Sonia Gandhi has so far not yet opened her mind on who should become the opposition leader. It is heard that Sonia had sought Rahul Gandhi's opinion. Oommen Chandy and others are of the stand that Chennithala continuing in the post is good for the party. However, Satheesan's supporters stand is that the people is not taking into confidence the words of Chennithala and if a major shuffle is not done, is sure to lose the support of the people. Chennithala is also putting a lot of pressure on the high command for one more other chance as opposition leader.
While Chennithala claims that the constituent parties favour him, they said they support the stand of the high command. If Satheesan, who had always created a headache for the Left Front in the assembly through debates, comes to the helm, a new opposition will line up in front of the new government. The opposition has a group of youngsters with them. Satheesan as a young man will be able to lead them.
Satheesan is a legislator from Paravur for the fifth time . Satheesan's usual style is to make allegations against the ruling party with evidence and present it clearly beyond a reasonable doubt.
When the high command representatives met the members alone, they rejected Oommen Chandy's direction and three MLAs of the ‘A’ Group supported Satheesan. His supporters claim that Satheesan has the support of 12 including their support. They say that Satheesan will be the opposition leader if looked at only the majority in the parliamentary party. However, they also share the concern that nothing can be said as the party is congress.
