THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the second Pinarayi cabinet came to power, the community representation of the cabinet members is being discussed on social media. The main allegation is that the parties that gave importance to the Nair community neglected the dalits. The LDF won 14 of the 16 reserved constituencies in the state. Only K Radhakrishnan, a dalit was represented in the cabinet.
Deputy speaker Chittayam Gopakumar outside the cabinet is from the dalit community. Despite being a senior and people’s representative, Chittayam Gopakumar was given only the post of deputy speaker.
One-third of the cabinet members are from the Nair community. The 21-member cabinet has seven members from the Nair community. Apart from this, the speaker and the chief whip are from the Nair community.
The CPM leading the government has four ministers and Speaker from the Nair community. Three of the four ministers from the CPI are also from the same community. Chief Whip N Jayaraj, representing Kerala Congress M is also a Nair. The Nair Community constituting only 12.5 per cent of the population of Kerala, received 37.5 per cent of cabinet posts.
There are five from the Ezhava community in the cabinet including the chief minister. The LDF has a total number of 26 Ezhava MLAs. In the state’s population, 23 per cent is of the Ezhava Community.
