THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 90 cases of liquor kept in the warehouse of the Beverages Corporation in Attingal were stolen. Foreign liquor was recently seized during an excise inspection in Attingal. A subsequent inspection of the liquor warehouse found a shortage of fifty cases of alcohol.
When the warehouse was opened to check stock after a lockdown a year ago, 40 cases of alcohol were found to be missing. At that time, the warehouse manager had to pay a fine for this. The burglary was discovered without any signs of theft in the warehouse. The Excise Department was surprised at this. They said the location would be checked and investigated by a CCTV camera.
The warehouse manager and excise have the authority to hold the keys to the warehouse. Therefore, it is suspected that the liquor was stolen with the help of a forged key.
The theft from the liquor store was reported to the Excise Commissionerate as it was serious. The excise department said it would look into whether there was any similar theft or misappropriation in other warehouses.
