THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has warned that there will be a third wave of COVID-19. While stating that there is a possibility of a third wave, the CM added that the government intends to evaluate the experience and initiate action to prepare to prevent the spread of the virus.

"There has been a lot of talk about the third wave at the international and national levels. The third wave may be caused by a virus that can survive the vaccine. It is safe for those who have been vaccinated, even if it is a single dose. But it should be noted that such people can also be carriers. People who have been vaccinated often get the disease because they have a related illness. So everyone should follow the COVID code of conduct," the CM said.

"Care should also be taken in the case of related diseases. COVID is assumed to have reached its peak so far in the second wave. But then there are the serious illnesses and deaths associated with the disease. It seems to be increasing. Time is crucial for hospitals. All the necessary precautions to be taken to deal with this phase should be ensured in all the district hospitals under the leadership of the Collectors. The primary duty is to save lives. This wave has taught us new lessons. We have learnt the threat posed by genetic variation in viruses and how high can the infection rise," he said.
