THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vizhinjam International Port project will be completed within two years, Ports Minister Ahamed Devarkovil said. "About 60 per cent of the project has been completed. There are some technical hurdles. Mechanisms are done for resolving this. A meeting on this is being held in the capital tomorrow", Devarkovil said.

"Immediate steps will be taken to develop Azhikode ports in Beypore and Kannur districts. Azhikode port can be converted into a major port if a little more land is acquired. Funds need to be found for this. The expansion of Azhikode port will help in the development of Kannur and Kasaragod districts", the minister said.

He said that if the Beypore port is developed, instead of unloading large cargoes in Kochi and bringing them by road, it can be unloaded at Beypore itself.
