THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise minister M V Govindan Master has come up with crucial decisions on the distribution of alcohol during the lockdown period. The minister has turned down-home delivery of alcohol during the lockdown period. Similar to the last lockdown, the government is also considering implementing an online system for booking alcohol.

Last time, the BeVQ app was instituted by the government to bring down the rush in bars and beverage outlets in the wake of the rapid spread of the pandemic. Relaxation was brought in the existing norms for this purpose. Minister Govindan Master has conducted informal talks with BevCo MD over how to conduct the liquor distribution during the lockdown period.

If the govt decides to undertake liquor distribution online then it has to amend the existing foreign liquor rules. Along with this, changes should be also brought in the Abkari Shop Disposal Rules. If any company's plea is received to the BevCo MD in connection with this then it will be transferred to the excise commissioner. Later the Commissioner will submit a recommendation to the minister including all necessary details. The cabinet will take a final decision on the issue as it is related to foreign liquor distribution.
