NEW DELHI: Some in the congress are against K Sudhakaran reaching the helm of the party. Speculations are rife that he will be nominated as the new KPCC chief. The groups cited that Sudhakaran’s extreme stand will harm the party. The move against Sudhakaran is at a time when the panel led by Ashok Chavan will be reaching Kerala next week as part of the re-organisation of the party.
Those opposing him are asking how Sudhakaran, who could not raise the party in his home district of Kannur, can lead the party in the state. A section warned the AICC that Sudhakaran's extreme stance would put the party on the defensive. Sudhakaran's remarks against the chief minister during election campaign dissociated a section of the party. They also said that if Sudhakaran, who ridiculed the job, reach the helm of the party, then that section will not stand by him.
The opponents are also using Sudhakaran's statement as a weapon that if the congress loses the election, a large section of the party will go to the BJP. The group leaders are worried that if K Sudhakaran arrives along with V D Satheesan, the equations will fall apart. However, the general assessment is that none other than Sudhakaran can take the party forward at this stage.
It is heard that Sudhakaran has the support of some national leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Shashi Tharoor. Meantime, Kodikunnil Suresh and K V Thomas may also vie for the post. There are indications that Benny Behanan is also eyeing the post.
