lockdown

Kerala is under lockdown on account of the Covid epidemic. The only category called government employees is 100 percent sure of getting paid next month. Their number, including teachers, is around five and a half lakhs. If we take the number of Pensioners apart from those in the Central Service and Judiciary working in Kerala, it will not go beyond 10 lakh. If nothing else, their families can take respite in the fact that they are financially secure.

In Kerala, with a population of 30 million, a vast majority depend on the private sector and employment in the Gulf. Their sources of income have declined. Due to the high cost of living in Kerala, the vast majority do not have the means to save large sums. There is a large section of domestic workers, labourers, construction workers and street vendors. Farmers, on the other hand, have started hanging boards saying they can offer for free their harvests like tapioca, paddy and other vegetables. As he death toll increases there is no way but to lock everything down. But the fact that so many are starving cannot be overlooked by those with the slightest conscience. It is also not right to ignore them as isolated beings. Ours is also a country where thousands of women live without any support and support their families by doing household works. It's easy to tell if they will get a pass. Even if you get a pass, you will not be able to come. Not everyone gets a pass if they apply. At this stage, it is not practical to say that the government should take care of everyone. The government also has limitations. The government has a lot of urgent work to do in connection with Covid.

Schools are not open, but online study will begin in June. This is the most expensive month for the common man. Don’t forget that some schools have given some exemptions for paying fees. When storms and rains join hands with Covid, the entire coastal area will undergo misery.

It is time for local politicians, voluntary organizations, community organizations, residents' associations and financially sound individuals to wake up and act. They are the ones who know most easily who is moving towards misery. There are still many good people among us who are willing to give money. But if help reaches the most needy regardless of the colour of the flags, there will be no shortage of people to help. It's time for each individual to step forward on their own to see if the hearth in the neighbour's house is smoking. For those who have money, savings and monthly income, no matter how long they are closed, their life will not sink into despair. But for others, the situation is not the same during lockdowns. The reality is that even when it seems that everything is calm outside, it is not so inside.
