PWD minister Mohammed Riyas has said that the central government must refrain from attempts to destroy peace and tranquillity in Lakshadweep. He also added that the move to politically assault the people of Lakshadweep for the sake of political vengeance is anti-democratic in nature. The minister has responded via his Facebook handle.

“Breaking the existing convention of appointing IAS officers to administer union territories the centre has appointed political nominees to subserve their selfish political interests through such measures,” Riyas said in his Facebook post.

The central government must refrain from actions that will disrupt peace and tranquillity in Lakshadweep. It is impossible to tolerate such measures which challenge the unique culture and life of the island people.

For centuries, Lakshadweep had commercial relations with Beypore port and a purported attempt is being made to disrupt it. They are also forcing the island people to carry out the transportation of goods via Mangalore.
