THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP Lakshadweep general secretary HK Mohammad Qasim has denied the allegations by BJP state president K Surendran that terrorist activities were taking place in Lakshadweep. "The people of Lakshadweep will never engage in terrorist activities. That's wrong. The people here never had such a thought. Lakshadweep is one of the most peaceful places. There is zero crime. The people of Lakshadweep are very good," Qasim said.

The media reported that terrorist activities and drug trafficking were taking place in some uninhabited areas of the island. "The central government will not allow such destructive activities. However. some people in Kerala are trying to make it appear as if all this is against a religious sect. The aim of such people is to undermine the work of the Kavaratti airport," Surendran had said.

Qasim had earlier written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Lakshadweep issue. The letter had pointed out that the reforms made after the arrival of Praful Patel as the administrator were adversely affecting the people.
