If the reform measures were to be implemented unilaterally without the full confidence of the islanders, it would give way to unexpected dimensions. The reason for the public outrage is that the administrator has lost the wisdom to understand it.

Lakshadweep is an island nation with immense tourism potential. But even after seven decades, its potential has not been fully exploited. The tourism sector can be greatly expanded while preserving the unique culture and heritage of the island. It is enough to come up with imaginative plans accordingly. Prior to that, the cooperation and trust of the islanders must be sought. It is not necessary to issue orders annoying the daily lives of the islanders in the morning and turn them all into enemies. Needless to say, the steps taken by the current administrator, who is a politician, went awry. Leaders in the Centre need to understand this. Taking advantage of the turbulent atmosphere, the forces of vested interest is sowing the seeds of unrest in the island.
Orders to remove meat from school children's food menus, to close dairy farms and to lay off all contract staff, including teachers, have provoked huge protests. The decision to replace the Beypore port in Kozhikode with the Mangalore port is also a mystery. People are also worried about the spread of Covid across the island. Lack of medical facilities has been a problem. It has been widely alleged that the administrator is caught in controversy and is not taking action to deal with it. All the rulers of Lakshadweep so far have been very loving and friendly with the islanders. The administrator was like a family member to them. Peace and tranquillity prevailed in the islands as a warm relationship prevailed.

The evacuation is part of a plan to make the Lakshadweep community a better tourist destination. This has also contributed to the current political resentment. Tourism development is an important factor in the growth of countries around the world. There are many tourist destinations in the country that can be easily developed. If developed creatively, the communities of Lakshadweep will gain immense wealth. It is enough to ensure that the development plans are in a way that does not harm the life and heritage of the islanders in any way. They need to be convinced of the immense benefits that come with this. Appropriate steps should be taken to quell the protest that is a fallout of the unwise actions of the administrator. Adequate interventions from the political and civil society should not be delayed.
