THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The staff of the Kanivu 108 ambulance network came to the rescue of a mother who gave birth in a car on the way to the hospital. Kausalya (20), a native of Vattavada in Idukki, gave birth to a baby boy under the care of Kaniv 108 ambulance staff.
Kausalya's family set out for the hospital in a car by around 1.55 am on Tuesday after she developed labour pain. They also requested an ambulance in the meantime. During the journey, Kausalya's condition worsened. Luckily, the ambulance staff met the family near Pampadum Shola national park. Following this, Emergency Medical Technician BS Ajeesh examined Kausalya and found that she could not be transferred to the ambulance. With the help of ambulance driver Noufal Khan, arrangements were made inside the car for childbirth. Kausalya gave birth at 2.15 am.
The mother and child were then transferred to the ambulance and were taken to the High Range Hospital in Munnar. They were later shifted to a private hospital in Adimali. Hospital officials said that both the mother and child are healthy. Health Minister Veena George congratulated the ambulance staff for working on time. Health Minister Veena George applauded both Ajeesh and Noufal for their timely intervention.
