KOCHI: Muslim League has said that they will file an appeal against the high court verdict which nullified the 80:20 proportion in the minority welfare schemes. The League will file an appeal asking to reconsider the plea. As of now, 80 per cent of minority scholarships in Kerala is distributed among Muslims and 20 per cent is distributed among the backward Christian religious groups in the state. The court has said that this proportion which was based on the high court’s previous verdict issued in 2015, is not only discriminatory but unconstitutional in nature.

Muslim league has said that 100% of minority scholarship belongs to Muslims. As per the plan, the 20% to be distributed among backward Christian groups come later. “The allegation that 80 per cent of scholarship benefits could be disbursed among Muslims alone is made up with malicious intentions. The verdict has been issued without studying for whom the scholarship schemes were actually launched. The government must file an appeal against the verdict,” League said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the law department will scrutinise the verdict of the high court which struck down the 80:20 proportion of the minority welfare schemes. The high court issued the verdict nullifying the 80:20 proportion of the minority welfare schemes on Friday.
