KAVARATTI: Lakshadweep administrator has issued an order forming a six-member committee to prepare a draft law on travel restrictions in Lakshadweep. The first meeting of the committee will be held on June 5. The move comes after the Additional District Magistrate banned visitors. Ship and air travel will be restricted.
The Kavaratti ADM will now have the power to grant entry to Lakshadweep. From tomorrow, only those with ADM's permission will be allowed to visit. The new directive also requires those who visit the island to renew their permits every week. The official explanation is that the new regulation was introduced in the name of the spread of COVID.
The administration's latest move comes as the AICC team and left-wing MPs are set to visit the island. The ADM issued the new order banning visitors amid protests in Lakshadweep.
