THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala on June 3, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD). The south westerly winds are expected to strengthen from June 1. More rains are expected than average this time. The Met Office had earlier warned that the monsoon would arrive on Monday.

The KSEB and Dam Safety Authority are making preparations in view of the onset of monsoon. Taking lessons from past experiences, as a precautionary measure, the spillway shutters of the dams are opened and the water is drained. There is no need to worry about dams in the state.
