KOLENCHERY: The mother, who threw her newborn child into the quarry pond, will be charged with murder. This is following the postmortem report which claimed that the baby drowned to death. A case has been registered against Thiruvaniyoor native Shalini (36) for murder and attempting to destroy evidence. The baby's death was caused by water and mud which entered its lungs. Shalini had earlier claimed that the baby's body was abandoned in the quarry as it died shortly after birth.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning. After giving birth on a rock near the house in the middle of the night, Shalini tied a heavy stone to the body of the baby and threw it into the quarry pond. The incident came to light after she was admitted to the hospital with post-delivery bleeding.

Shalini also has four children. The eldest is married. Three minor sons were placed in the care of relatives.
