KASARGOD: A case has been registered against BJP state chief K Surendran based on the revelation of K Sundara that he was paid money to withdraw his nomination papers from Manjeswaram. He had revealed that Surendran gave him money to withdraw his nomination papers filed to contest as BSP candidate in Manjeswaram constituency.

Following this, LDF candidate V V Ramesan of Manjeswaram constituency lodged a complaint at the Kasargod police. A case has also been registered against the local BJP leaders of Manjeswaram. A preliminary probe on the incident has started.

The case is being probed by a team led by Badiyadukka police and Kasargod DySP. Sundara had revealed that the BJP leaders had paid him Rs 2.5 lakh to withdraw the nomination papers. He also said that Surendran had intervened in the matter and demanded it via phone. Sundara also said things regarding the transactions were fixed. Soon local BJP leaders reached home and handed over the money to him.

Surendran was defeated for 89 votes in Manjeswaram in 2016. Sundara who contested polls as an independent garnered 467 votes then. Surendran had contested polls in Manjeswaram and Konni in 2021. Although Sundara filed the nomination papers in Manjewswaram as BSP candidate, he withdrew it later. He said that he withdrew the nomination papers after money was paid to him.
