THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Advocate Koshy Jacob has sent a letter to the governor for earmarking Rs 2 crore to construct a memorial for Balakrishna Pillai. The letter says that the government’s decision to erect a memorial for the deceased politician will not only hamper the people’s morale but it also amounts to challenging the honourable Supreme Court. Jacob also pointed out that Balakrishna Pillai had to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 and served a one-year jail term for his involvement in the infamous Idamalayar scandal which occurred only due to the constant legal battles waged by CPM leader V S Achuthanandan against him.
He had also said that the government has taken a dishonourable measure. “It has earmarked Rs two crore to build a memorial for a tainted politician. Therefore the governor must intervene and it should ask the government to withdraw from the move to construct the memorial,” Koshy Jacob said in the letter.
