PARAVUR: Five years ago, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that every file is a life. But the Poothakulam panchayat authorities did not find life in the application of 102-year-old Janamma in Neduvalli Chalu.
Janamma's pension was stopped as part of a measure to avoid those receiving welfare pensions illegally. Janamma is not married. She does not have ration card as she does not own land and house. He lives in her nephew's house. She had been receiving old age pension since 1982.
She lost pension three years ago when the condition to link the pension with Aadhaar came into being. Janamma does not have an Aadhaar card. There are no lines on the wrinkled fingers to use for the Aadhaar card. The relatives informed the panchayat authorities about this. She was then asked to produce a life certificate.
Relatives approached offices and acquired a life certificate. A new application was also submitted to the panchayat. When inquired about the pension, the panchayat officials replied that the application was not there.
The government has set a welfare pension norm to exclude the ineligible. According to this, Janamma is entitled to a pension. But Janamma does not have the health to go in with the documents and application to prove it.
