THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rent paid by the Beverages Corporation, which has no income due to the lockdown, is Rs 3 crore per month. It's been 40 days since Bevco's earnings have stopped. If the Covid crisis continues, Bevco, which provides huge revenue to the government, will find itself in the middle of a huge financial crisis.

However, the salaries of the employees have not been deducted. The government has not decided whether to open the shops even if the lockdown comes to an end on June 9. In the absence of the BevQ app, Bevco hopes that the outlets will be allowed to open with restrictions. Employees' organizations are of the opinion that outlets should be operated on certain days of the week. For this, the days should be arranged according to the age limit of the buyers. They may submit this proposal to the government. Bevco had revenue of Rs 11,709 crore in the financial year 2020-21 till February.

Illegal production and distribution of liquor are rampant in the state following the closure of liquor stores. Excise officials have seized large quantities of spurious liquor and arrack in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Idukki and Thrissur districts.
