NENMARA: A young man, who got secretly married to his lover, kept her in his own house for ten years without informing anyone. Rahman (34), a native of Ayiloor, shocked the locals as well as his own family members by hiding his lover Sajitha (28) in his own room. It must be noted that both Rahman and Sajitha were neighbours.

The events took place in February 2010. Rahman, who was 24 then, was in love with 18-year-old Sajitha. One day, Sajitha left her house and came to Rahman's house. Since then she had been living in his room without anyone's knowledge. Rahman's father, mother, and siblings did not know that the girl had lived for so long in such a room that did not even have a toilet. Whenever the youth went out, he used to lock his room with a special lock. He also arranged a system to get out of the room after removing the window panes. He used to bring her food this way. Sajitha looked after her primary needs by getting out of the room at night. Although Rahman was questioned by the police after Sajitha's relatives complained that she went missing, they did not receive any clue about her.

Rahman, an electrician, left home this March after informing his family that he got a new job. Sajitha was secretly brought to a rented house in Vithinassery and the couple started living there. His relatives complained to the police as they did not receive any information about him for days. However, the police were unable to locate him. During the lockdown, Rahman's brother accidentally met him in Nenmara. Following this, the police were informed and Rahman was taken into custody. Soon, Sajitha was also found.

The two were produced in Alathur court by the police. The court ordered their release after Sajitha said that she wanted to live with Rahman and there was no complaint.
