KOZHIKODE: Mystery shrouds over the death of five killed after gold smuggling team’s vehicle met with an accident in Ramanattukara. Mystery heightened further after high quality dates found abroad and milk powder were found in the car.
Police said those involved in the accident were those following a team from Koduvally who came to collect the smuggled gold from abroad. The police have not been able to find an answer to the question how the dates and milk powder reached the quotation gang’s car. The Karipur air intelligence unit seized gold worth Rs 1.33 core the other day. The customs had taken into custody Muhammed Shafeeq, a native of Malappuram, in connection with the incident. The version of the police is that the quotation gangs arrived in search of the gold he bought.
The police claim that the operation of the gang was foiled after the customs seized the gold targeted and while returning the Koduvalli and the Cherpulassery gangs clashed on their way back and chasing that followed led to the accident. Those opposing police claim point that the gangs are less likely to go into confrontation and chasing if they are convinced that the gold has been seized by the customs. Police are still unaware of the gang that returned without the gold. It is therefore doubtful whether more gold was smuggled out of the airport than was seized by customs. The police have no answer to this at present.
There are presently eight people in police custody. A case of attempted robbery has been registered against them. Since there are no complainants, the question arises as to how the case will stand. The police are unable to give a clear answer to this. Police are now questioning those in custody in detail and are hoping to find an answer to everything.
