NEDUMBASSERY: Smuggled gold worth Rs 3.2 crore was seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Air Customs during an inspection at the Kochi International Airport. Six passengers were arrested. Of this, 3446 grams of gold were seized by the DRI.

1998 grams of gold was seized from Rashid who arrived from Sharjah via an Air Arabia flight. 998 grams of gold was seized from Mushtaq Ahmed who arrived from Jeddah via an Al Jazeera flight. Abdul Rashid, who arrived on the same flight, tried to smuggle 450 grams of gold by hiding it in his body.

2945 grams of gold was seized by the Customs. 998 grams of gold was seized from Mohammad Shafiq, a resident of Malappuram, who was on an Al Jazeera flight from Jeddah. Yassar Arafat, a resident of Malappuram, who was on the same flight, was caught trying to smuggle 749 grams of gold inside his body. 1198 grams of gold was seized from Kasargod native Abbas Saleem who arrived from Kuwait via a Kuwait Airlines flight.
