THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth has been arrested for brutally assaulting a woman inside a car in Thiruvananthapuram. The woman was rescued by a group of locals who blocked the car. The Museum police have registered a case against Ashok, a native of Patoor and son of former minister Kadakampally Surendran's personal staff member. The incident was reported by Mathrubhumi.
Ashok was in a semi-conscious state of intoxication. The incident took place at PMG Law College Junction around 8 pm last night. After noticing a girl's scream from the car, some locals blocked the car using a scooter. Ashok then got out of the car and began assaulting the woman in front of the locals. This led to heated arguments between him and the locals. During the brawl, Ashok shouted that he was a lawyer and the son of a former minister's staff member. Though he attempted to escape from the spot, he was stopped by the public.
Following this, police reached the spot and shifted Ashok and the woman to the station. The two were made to undergo medical examination. Both Ashok and the woman work in the IT sector and are friends. Police said that a case has been registered against Ashok under various sections including harassment of women and driving under the influence of alcohol.
