KOTTAYAM: A woman strangled her daughter to death at Mundakayam in the district. The woman identified as Laijeena, wife of Shemeer of Kuttikkal, murdered her 12-year-old daughter Shamna. The incident happened Sunday morning at 4 am.

She strangled her daughter to death using a shawl. Soon after committing the crime, she jumped to a well. The locals and the fire force jointly rescued her. She herself informed the incident to them.

The child was later found strangled. Although she was taken to the hospital, her life could not be saved. The locals said the woman had some mental problems. Her husband Shemeer is abroad.
