KODUNGALLUR: A man was arrested for strangling his father to death while staying in quarantine at home. The arrested has been identified as Methala native Nizar (36), son of Ummar (68). Ummer was strangled on Friday.
The broken bones in the neck and the protrusion of both eyes indicated that it was murder. A post-mortem report later revealed that Ummer had been strangled to death.
All three family members, including Ummer, were admitted to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital after they tested positive for Covid. Meanwhile, Ummer's wife Aleema died on the 19th. Ummer and his son Nizar were discharged after they tested negative for the disease. Following this, they had been staying in home quarantine. Ummer was found dead in the house on Friday. Several locals alleged that Nizar had violated home quarantine by going out of the house to purchase liquor. Nizar, who got married twice, got separated from both after they complained of his bad behaviour.
It was Nizar himself who informed the relatives and ward councilor about the murder. "Father is dead. Don't tell anyone that I killed him," he used to say to them. However, no one cared about this until the post mortem report revealed that Ummer was murdered.
