THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday announced that the cinema theatres in the state would get a reduction in the fixed charge of electricity for the month of May. It was also decided to provide free electricity to domestic consumers who consume 30 units of electricity per month.

The government has decided to offer a 25 percent reduction in the fixed charge for commercial customers in May 2021 and a 50 percent reduction in the fixed charge for cinema theaters. The CM also announced that consumers have been allowed time till September 30 to settle their pending bills in up to three installments. The CM added that if the bill amount for the period is paid in part or in full, it will be adjusted in subsequent bills.

BPL consumers who remain within the connected load limit of 1000 watts will be able to draw up to 50 units at a rate of Rs 1.50 per unit. At present, such consumers are able to draw up to 40 units.
