KATTAPPANA: A boy committed suicide after his father scolded him for recharging his phone with Rs 1,500 to play a mobile game. Gershom (14), a ninth class student of Kattappana Tribal Higher Secondary School and son of Karukapparambil Babu (Raveendran) and Sreeja, of Suvarna Giri Kalyanathand Karukaparambu, was found hanging at home.

His father had complained to Gershom that he had been playing games on his mobile phone for too long and had charged the phone for too much money. The boy was upset about this. The boy was found hanging from a shawl in his room after his parents left for work this morning.

His aunt Jizia and grandmother were at home when the incident took place. The mother, who was on her way to work, called Gershom but could he didn't answer. They then opened the room and found the child dead. The body was transferred to Idukki Medical College. Funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon after the Covid test.
