KOZHIKODE: CPM action against K P Kunhammed Kutty MLA. Kuttiyadi MLA Kunhahammed Kutty has been excluded from the district secretariat. The action is for partaking in protests related to elections. Kutty has appealed against the action.

The rebel move in Kuttiyadi was discussed at the CPM district committee’s election review meet. At the end of the discussions, it was decided to exclude Kutty from the district secretariat. The CPM usually takes action after an inquiry by the party commission into the disciplinary violations. However, without a commission of inquiry or other reports, Kutty was excluded from the CPM district leadership secretariat.

Thousands protested in giving Kuttiyadi seat to the Kerala Congress Mani faction, which has no roots in the constituency in the Assembly elections. The public protests in Kuttiyadi and Ponnani had put the CPM on the defensive. Those protested demanded that Kutty be made the CPM candidate there.

The Mani faction decided to hand over the Kuttiyadi seat to the CPM following the protests. DYFI state secretary A A Rahim was initially heard to contest from here but eventually Kutty was asked to contest.
