Institutions get fame and prizes as individuals do. They are honoured for their outstanding work. The Thampanoor police station in the capital has bagged the Chief Minister's award for the best police station in the state based on its performance last year. Thampanoor station, which is on the verge of its golden jubilee, once earned a lot of notoriety. It is through dedicated work that it has been able to set a good example in maintaining law and order and serving the people. Last year, the authorities did not receive a single complaint against Thampanoor station. That is the proof of the friendliness of this station. The criteria for determining the best police station were station management, public outreach, excellence in proving crime, excellence in providing online services, uncompromising anti-drug fight, and skill in leading the troops most efficiently. In all these fields, the station masters and troops were able to bring Thampanoor station to the forefront. This is a prime example of how a police station can be transformed into an exemplary public service institution. The award was given to 68 people at the station, including the officer in charge of the station, Mohammad Shafi, and his predecessor, Baiju.

Many police stations, once housed in sheds or sheds reminiscent of barns, have been transformed into modern buildings where there is wind circulation and lots of light! In Thampanoor itself, there used to be an old building with a distorted face. In its place was erected a new station with four floors.

Last year, 2261 cases were registered at Thampanoor station. It is the station's advantage that it has been able to settle all but four of these. The Central Railway Station and KSRTC where thousands frequent every day are within the limits of Thampanoor station. Police stations in places like this are usually the subject of constant controversy in almost any city. There will be more cases than usual. But another advantage of Thampanoor station is that it has been able to prevent crime as much as possible through better policing. No police station gets the highest honour because of its own glory. It all depend on the efficiency and dedication of the police officers working there.
