KOCHI: Swapna Suresh has approached the High Court seeking bail in a case registered by the NIA in connection with the gold smuggling. She moved the court questioning the order of the NIA special court denying bail. Her bail plea pointed that the UAPA case against her will not stand and that the trial in the case is being delayed indefinitely.
The customs seized 30 kg of gold that reached the UAE consulate through a diplomatic channel on July 5, 2020. Sarith, a former PRO of the consulate was the first arrested. Sarith's statement led to an investigation into the role of Swapna. Later on July 12, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair were arrested dramatically by the NIA from Bangalore.
