KOCHI: A plea has been filed in Kerala High Court against granting parole to the accused in Abhaya case. The plea was filed by Jomon Puthenpurakkal pointing that the parole is illegal. The petitioner alleged that jail DGP's explanation that the parole was granted by the jail high power committee appointed by the Supreme Court, is a lie.
As per Supreme Court order, the jail high power committee granted parole to the accused convicted of less than ten years. The plea stated that it was illegal for the CBI to grant parole to the accused less than five months after their conviction.
After 28 years of legal proceedings, Father Thomas Kottur, first accused in Abhaya case and Sister Sefi, third accused were found guilty under various sections including murder.
