THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All ration card holders in the state will get a special kit for Onam. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting convened here today.

The government announced financial aid for the family of Harshad, an employee who died after bitten by a king cobra at the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo. Rs 20 lakh would be given to his family. Out of this, 10 lakh would be given to complete the construction of their house. A job will be given to the dependents and the government will bear the education expenses of his children till they complete 18 years of age.

The cabinet did not consider reinstating M Sivasankar, the former principal secretary to the chief minister. His suspension period expires tomorrow.

The cabinet also decided to provide an insurance cover of Rs 7.5 lakh to ration dealers.
