NEW DELHI: A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court against the decision of the government to ease Covid-19 curbs on retail sales for three days ahead of Bakrid. The plea was filed by businessman P K D Nambiar. Most probably the apex court will consider the plea today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had the other day expressed concern over the Covid situation in Maharashtra and Kerala. The situation in the state is similar to a health emergency. In this context, the plea was filed in the Supreme Court against the government, alleging that the government is playing with the lives of the humans.
The government had given permission to open all shops on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays for Bakrid. The Indian Medical Association had also objected to easing of curbs. The conclusion is that relaxation of curbs may increase the risk of disease as the third wave is looming.
