NEW DELHI: Five journalists, who were in the potential lists of snoop targets, have filed a petition in the Supreme court seeking an investigation into the Pegasus issue. They also demanded that the Centre should disclose whether it had bought Pegasus. This is the first time that the victims of snooping by the Pegasus spyware have approached the court.
The journalists alleged that the surveillance of the devices was violative of the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution of India. The journalists who approached the apex court are Paranjoy Thakurta, Prem Shankar Jha, Rupesh Kumar Singh, SN Abdi and Ipsa Shataksi.
In their petition, the journalists stated that the forensic examination of their phones done by Amnesty International had revealed that their phones were targeted using the Pegasus malware.
