THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The IMA said the attacks on doctors could not be tolerated and that they could not stand by and watch the attacks.

The IMA said what happened to a woman doctor during Covid time was vicious and an attack against femininity. The woman was manhandled and the miscreants even tried to tear her clothes.

The IMA warned that necessary steps should be taken to prevent such attacks and warned that doctors in Kerala should not be pushed into a series of protests that would deviate from things including treatment of Covid.

The IMA called on the central government to strictly enforce the hospital protection act, declare hospitals as protected areas, install police aid posts and cameras in emergency departments, tighten security in hospitals immediately and to bring in legislation against hospital attacks.

IMA officials in a statement said they were shocked by the public's reluctance to condemn violence against the health workers.
