THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The gang behind the robbery of Rs 2.5 lakh from various ATMs of Kerala Bank has been arrested. The money was robbed as per the plan of a native of Delhi by leaking details from the company that developed the software for the bank. Police said the employees of the software company were behind the scam.
The cyber police arrested Newman Ahmed, a resident of Delhi, Abdul Samadani and Mohammad Najeeb, natives of Kasargod for plotting the theft. The money was withdrawn using a fake ATM card of the Bank of Baroda. Customers will not lose money if they withdraw money from Kerala Bank with another bank's card. The money of Kerala Bank will be lost.
Although the Reserve Bank has said that EVM ATMs should be used from 2019, Kerala Bank has not yet implemented it. This issue led to the fraud. However, the bank has not disclosed this yet. Newman, a native of Delhi made the fake ATM cards. He was caught at the Karipur airport with ATM cards prepared in this manner.
