ALUVA: A man, who attacked a doctor at the hospital, surrendered to the police on Friday. Mohammad Kabir, who assaulted Dr. Jeeson Johny of Pukkattupady Thaqdees Hospital, surrendered 10 days after the incident. Doctors had threatened to go on strike in protest against the police for not arresting Kabir. The doctors' union had said that it would stage a protest by stopping all activities, including the Covid vaccination campaign. Meanwhile, Kabir surrendered to the police yesterday evening.

On August 3, the doctor was assaulted in front of the emergency department of the hospital. Kabir allegedly attacked the doctor from behind while the doctor was examining his wife and 9-year-old child. Kabir's wife, who had tested positive for Covid, came to the hospital with the child after testing negative for the virus.

The doctor was assaulted while he examined Kabir's wife after examining the child. People, including nurses, were on the scene at the time. It is learnt that Kabir attacked the doctor as he did not like him talking to his wife. Meanwhile, Kabir's wife has also lodged a complaint with the police against the doctor. A case has also been registered against the accused under the Hospital Protection Act.
