India is the first neighbor to be most concerned about the re-emergence of Taliban rule in Afghanistan. Pakistan, which has been training and arming Taliban fighters, will naturally be overjoyed. The embassies have been maintained by China and Russia as an indication that they will recognize the Taliban government. China has economic interests beyond politics on wealthy Afghan soil.
Pakistan and China, which are hostile to India, will not fail to devise strategies to turn the new regime in Afghanistan against India. In this context, India must adopt a very prudent and realistic foreign policy in its approach to Afghanistan. It took a quarter of a century for the Soviet Union to realize that the Afghan occupation had gone awry. It took almost twenty years for America. With the world's two major powers heading back, there is no remote possibility of another force stepping foot there. The only consolation is that the Taliban have captured Kabul without bloodshed. The Taliban was formed in 1994 in Kandahar, which is dominated by Pashtuns. With the help of the same Pashtuns, Pakistan captured part of Kashmir and formed Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The tribes of Afghanistan have maintained the harshness of the rocky and rocky terrain as it is. It is their tradition to take up arms and fight. No force can completely subdue or permanently stop such a people who are fighting for their lives without fear of death. That is what happened now. India cannot help but acknowledge the fact that the Taliban have seized power. India's change in foreign policy must focus on how to cooperate with them without sacrificing nation's interests. The Taliban have also seen a decline in old-fashioned zeal. The Taliban initially said the name would be the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. As a result, many of the freedoms of modernity may be denied when it comes to religious law. The future of the people of that country is being looked at with concern by the international community. The Taliban will not be able to survive long without a focus on sustainable governance based on development. For that to happen the bullets and smoke have to stop. So who can say that a democratic dawn will not rise there again. Let's hope that happens.
