THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: PT Thomas MLA has accused the government of embezzling Rs 8 crore in the purchase of cardamom for Onam kit. He said that cardamom was procured at high prices through intermediaries and not bought directly from farmers and therefore a thorough investigation into the transaction is needed.
Meanwhile, former Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has come out with allegation that the failure to deliver kits before Onam is a serious lapse of duty. He said people were frustrated and millions of people are not getting the kit.
Meanwhile, Food Minister GR Anil said ration card holders who do not buy government kits can buy them after Onam. He said the number of people who had donated the kit would reach 70 lakh by this evening and the allegation that the goods has not been delivered is to cook up controversy.
