MALAPPURAM: A youth has alleged that he was brutally beaten by moral policing goons. The incident took place at Cheriyamundam in Tirur. The 23-year-old youth was allegedly beaten by a girl's brother and others for chatting with her on WhatsApp.

According to a complaint lodged with the police by the family of the youth, the incident took place a week ago. The video of the young man being beaten was recorded on the phone by the gang and circulated on social media.

The family said the young man was mentally ill. The young man was admitted to the hospital after he was assaulted. A case has been registered against seven minors in the incident.
