THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More liquor was sold in the capital city on the Uthradam day. Liquor worth Rs 1.04 crore was sold on Uthradam day from an outlet on Power House Road near the Secretariat, the administrative headquarters. liquor worth over Rs one crore is being sold from an outlet for the first time. Liquor worth Rs 96 lakh was sold from an outlet in Irinjalakuda. Liquor worth Rs 85 crore was sold across the state on Uthradam alone.
There was a record sale of liquor in the ten days associated with Onam. Liquor worth Rs 750 crore was sold. About 70 per cent of the sales were at BEVCO outlets and 30 per cent at bars. This time the sale was through 260 outlets. Five outlets did not open due to local restrictions. Brandy was the most sold.
Online liquor sales in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode have generated income close to Rs 10 lakh. BEVCO had opened 181 additional counters to reduce the rush. Liquor was given only to those who came with Covid vaccine certificate following high court order. BEVCO MD Yogesh Gupta said the increase in sales was due to the precautionary measures taken by the corporation to ensure that the restrictions do not affect sales.
