KANNUR: CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has intervened to resolve the issues between the party leaders in Kannur. Kodiyeri participated in the district secretariat meeting held today. He will also participate in the district committee tomorrow.
With the party conventions approaching, CPM is trying to resolve the infighting within the party by sending Kodiyeri to Kannur. There are indications that Kodiyeri is trying to allay the displeasure of district secretariat member M Surendran and former minister EP Jayarajan, who have alleged that they are being ignored at the parliamentary level and in the party. Kodiyeri will meet the leaders one on one and hold discussions with them.
However, the party explained that Kodiyeri reached Kannur to assess the preparations for the party congress. Another issue is the altercation between P Jayarajan and KP Sahadevan during the party discussion on the gold smuggling issue and the warning issued to them by the party. It is learnt that Kodiyeri's visit is intended to solve various problems within the party.
