The saying that delaying justice is tantamount to denial of justice is as old as the legal system itself. But in cases of money laundering against MPs, prolonging years of investigation and trial gives the defendants the 'justice' they want, and the defendants generally want the case never to reach a conclusion so that they don’t get punished, and in effect the same thing happens when the case prolonged by ten to twenty years.
The Center has been directed by the Supreme Court to submit a report within two weeks after examining the unacceptable delays in the probe by the CBI and the ED in investigating money laundering cases against MPs is unacceptable.
There are cases against 51 MPs and 71 MLAs in connection with money laundering. There are also MPs involved in multiple cases. Of these, 28 cases, which are more than 10 years old, are still under investigation. The CBI has a backlog of 121 cases pending against it since 2010. In 37 cases, the investigation has not even begun. There are also cases for which a chargesheet has not been filed even after 15 years.
