NEW DELHI: A recent report claimed that the central government is of the view that there is no other way but to impose a lockdown to reduce the spread of Covid in Kerala. The state has been recording a sharp increase in Covid cases for the last few days. Kerala accounts for nearly 70 percent of active cases in the country. The TPR has also increased from 15 to 19. In this context, the central government officials made it clear that lockdown is appropriate in Kerala.

According to the report, the officials believe that the lockdown can reduce the spread of Covid in Kerala as in Delhi. If the lockdown is announced in Kerala now, the situation will improve in two weeks. The state should come up with a better plan to bring the Covid under control, the officials said. They also said that measures like night curfew will be beneficial in view of the festive season.
