CHATHANNOOR: A 13-year-old boy and his father were taken into police custody after the boy was seen driving the car. It is learnt that the boy took control of the car when his father became drunk and unconscious while driving the vehicle. It was the locals who informed the police about this. Soon, police blocked the car and took the father-son duo into custody.

The incident took place in Chathannoor around 7 pm yesterday. The arrested are Kaliyakkavilai native Surendra Kumar (46) and his son. According to police, Surendra Kumar got drunk while driving from his house in Kaliyakkavilai to his wife's house in Malappuram. Eventually, he became unconscious and was not able to drive. With this, the car was stopped near Chathannoor Seematti and the son got into the driver's seat of the car. The car was blocked by the police at Chathannoor junction.

A case has been registered against Surendra Kumar for allowing a minor to drive a vehicle and for behaving in a manner that endangers the life of the child. Police sought the help of the District Child Welfare Committee to protect the child. Police said that the car's insurance expired on the 18th.
