THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Eleventh Pay Revision Commission recommended the government to increase the pension age of state government employees from 56 to 57 years. They also recommended the working day of government employees be reduced to five days a week. The recommendation was mentioned in the final report submitted to the chief minister yesterday.
The working day of government employees be reduced to five days a week. The working hours should be increased accordingly. The working time of the government employees is now from 10 am to 5 pm. The interval is from 1.15 pm to 2 pm. It is also recommended that the working hours be extended from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm to compensate the loss of working days.
Holidays in a year should be reduced to 12. Local holidays should be allowed only if there are celebrations or other events that affect the lives of the people. Each department should find work that can be done from home. The commission recommended that employees be given alternate opportunities to work from home.
Other important suggestions
The commission also directed that families of those who die in service be given full pension. Ensure that 20% of the reservation set aside for Scheduled Castes and OBCs is received by the economically backward sections in that category.
Vacancies in government aided schools should be published in two most popular Malayalam newspapers.
Vacancies should be published on the website of the Department of Education and the school.
The selection committee should include management, university and government representatives.
The audio and video of the interview for the appointment should be copied and kept.
An ombudsman should be appointed to look into complaints regarding the appointment.
